The AI Data Centre Boom: Building Nordic Competence
AI is driving a global data centre boom, and skilled people are in short supply. As a new EPI Authorised Training Partner in the Nordics, AVC offers internationally recognised data centre certifications, from DCFC® and CDCP® to CDESS® and CTIA®, in virtual classroom and eLearning formats.

The AI Data Centre Boom: Building Nordic Competence
Demand for data centre training has never been higher. Every time someone prompts an AI assistant, generates an image or analyses a dataset, the work happens on physical infrastructure: servers, power, cooling and cabling inside a data centre. The AI revolution is a data centre revolution, and it is creating a skills gap the industry is struggling to close.
That is why we are excited to announce our new partnership with EPI across the Nordic region. As an EPI Authorised Training Partner, AVC now offers internationally recognised data centre certifications to teams across the Nordics. Here is what is driving the boom, why competence matters, and where to start.
Why is AI driving a data centre boom?
Traditional data centres were fairly predictable. Racks drew a few kilowatts each, air cooling was enough and capacity grew steadily. AI data centres are different. Training and running large models relies on dense clusters of accelerators that draw far more power and produce far more heat.
That has three consequences:
- Power is the new bottleneck. Securing reliable electricity is now a strategic question.
- Cooling is being reinvented. Liquid cooling is moving into mainstream design discussions.
- Everything is being built or rebuilt at once. New builds, expansions, consolidations and migrations run in parallel, and each needs skilled people.
AVC and EPI: a new partnership for the Nordics
EPI, part of TÜV NORD GROUP, is a global leader in data centre training and certification. Through our partnership, AVC aims to strengthen competence development in the Nordic data centre industry by delivering training aligned with EPI's globally recognised frameworks and industry standards.
We look forward to helping both existing and new clients develop their teams and achieve internationally recognised professional certifications, whether that means a first step for colleagues new to the field or advanced specialisation for experienced engineers.
The EPI Data Center Training Framework
The EPI Data Center Training Framework organises certifications into a foundation level and four tracks: Design/Build, Maintenance/Operations, Risk, and Standards/Compliance. The certifications are accredited by EXIN, so you can see where you are today and what your next step could be.
Start here: DCFC® and CDCP®
Think of project management. If you want a serious career, there is a recognised starting credential: the PMP. In the data centre world, the equivalent is the Certified Data Centre Professional (CDCP®). It is the natural first step for anyone who wants a career as a data centre specialist, with a broad grounding in design and operation that many advanced courses build on. From there the path continues to the Certified Data Center Specialist (CDCS®) and Certified Data Center Expert (CDCE®).
Not everyone needs to become a specialist. Procurement, finance, sales, project managers and executives often work close to data centres without being technicians. For them, the Data Centre Foundation Certificate (DCFC®) offers a general understanding of what a data centre is and how it works.
Design and cabling for the AI era
The Certified Network Cabling Design Professional (CNCDP®) course covers structured cabling for commercial buildings and data centres, including ToR, EoR and spine-and-leaf designs, plus copper and fibre testing. As AI clusters demand more bandwidth and lower latency, cabling decisions matter more than ever.
Operations: keeping the data centre running
- Certified Data Centre Facilities Operations Specialist (CDFOS®) is built for engineers and technicians, covering service levels, safety, physical security, maintenance and monitoring.
- Certified Data Centre Facilities Operations Manager (CDFOM®) takes the leadership view: teams, vendors, budgets, governance and compliance, based on the Data Centre Operations Standard (DCOS®).
Sustainability: now a business requirement
Demand for compute is soaring, and so is scrutiny of energy and water use. The Certified Data Centre Environmental Sustainability Specialist (CDESS®) course teaches you to measure and improve efficiency with metrics such as PUE, WUE and CUE, calculate emissions across the three scopes and evaluate renewable energy options. It even explores how AI can help manage environmental performance.
Risk and migration
The Certified Data Centre Risk Professional (CDRP®) course shows you how to identify threats, assess the cost of downtime and build treatment plans using standards such as ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO 31000.
For organisations consolidating, outsourcing or relocating, the Certified Data Centre Migration Specialist (CDMS®) course covers the full lifecycle: strategy, discovery, dependency analysis, migration waves, safety, security and retirement of the old site.
Standards and auditing
The Standards/Compliance track is built around ANSI/TIA-942. It starts with the Certified TIA-942 Design Consultant (CTDC®) and leads to the Certified TIA-942 Internal Auditor (CTIA®), where you learn to audit a facility using ISO 19011 principles. CTDC® is a prerequisite.
Which data centre certification is right for you?
- New to the industry or in a related role: DCFC®
- Want to become a data centre specialist: CDCP®
- Working in operations: CDFOS® or CDFOM®
- Focused on sustainability and ESG: CDESS®
- Responsible for uptime and resilience: CDRP®
- Planning a move or consolidation: CDMS®
- Designing networks: CNCDP®
- Heading towards audit and compliance: CTDC®, then CTIA®
Frequently asked questions
Which course should I start with? For a career as a data centre specialist, start with CDCP®. For a general understanding, choose DCFC®.
How long is the certification valid? For most of the courses above, three years, after which recertification is required. CTIA® is issued for the applicable version of the standard.
Is the exam included? Yes. AVC's classroom courses include the exam, with one year of access to the exam voucher.
Are the courses also available as eLearning?
Yes. Besides live virtual classroom sessions, the courses are also available as eLearning, so you can study flexibly and at your own pace.
Take the next step
The AI boom will be remembered for its models and chips, but it is built by engineers, technicians, planners and auditors. With our new EPI partnership, AVC is ready to help Nordic organisations develop the people who keep it running.
