Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course, you will be able to:
Expand
Expand your reporting capabilities by using advanced SQL grouping features such as ROLLUP, CUBE, and GROUPING SETS to generate multiple levels of summaries within a single query.
Explore
Explore Oracle Flashback technologies that allow you to view historical data, recover deleted objects, and reverse user errors without relying on traditional backups.
Preserve
Gain practical experience with Flashback Query, Flashback Table, and Flashback Drop, helping you minimize downtime, preserve data integrity, and recover information quickly when issues occur.
Manage
Work with pattern-matching syntax, repetition operators, grouping expressions, and built-in regex functions, while also learning to use virtual columns, external tables, and advanced date and time features to manage complex datasets more effectively.

Course timeline
Advanced SQL Querying and Data Analysis
Day 1
- Master advanced subquery techniques, including correlated subqueries, inline views, the EXISTS operator, common table expressions (WITH clause), and multi-column subqueries.
- Learn to modify data efficiently by performing INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE operations using query-based and correlated SQL statements.
- Query hierarchical data using START WITH, CONNECT BY, and the LEVEL pseudocolumn to navigate and organise parent-child relationships.
- Generate sophisticated reports with ROLLUP, CUBE, GROUPING SETS, and grouping functions to produce multi-level summaries and analytical insights.
- Analyse data using Oracle analytic functions, including ranking, window functions, LISTAGG, LAG, LEAD, FIRST/LAST, NTILE, and WIDTH_BUCKET.
- Manage large data volumes with multi-table inserts, conditional inserts, and MERGE statements to efficiently synchronise and update database records.
Flashback, Data Management and Database Administration
Day 2
- Recover data and reverse user errors using Oracle Flashback features, including Flashback Query, Flashback Table, and Flashback Drop.
- Use regular expressions to validate, search, and manipulate text through advanced pattern matching and Oracle's built-in regex functions.
- Create and manage virtual columns and external tables to improve data organisation and access external data sources without importing them.
- Work confidently with Oracle date, timestamp, interval, and time zone data types, applying functions and NLS settings for accurate date and time processing.
- Manage database security by creating users, assigning roles, and granting or revoking system and object privileges.
- Explore the Oracle Data Dictionary to retrieve metadata, monitor database objects, and simplify administration using essential system views and catalog tables.
